An Official Timeline of Events Leading to Diablo 4's Darkest Chapter

The world of Sanctuary is a long and storied one, full of war and violence. As the fourth full title in the franchise, Diablo 4 continues this tale with its darkest chapter yet – Lilith’s return to reclaim her place as Mother of Sanctuary. To help fans understand the history leading up to this event, Blizzard has just released an official timeline detailing many major events across all games set in Sanctuary, including Diablo Immortal.

According to Blizzard’s timeline, Diablo 1 took place in 1263 on the calendar of Sanctuary. This was followed by two years spent playing through Diablo 2 before five more years went by for something new – Diablo Immortal! Fifteen years after that came along another installment in the series – Diablo 3, but it looks like fans will have had quite some time off as a whopping 50 years have passed since Reaper Of Souls before we reach today's latest entry into the franchise – Diablo 4.

Not only does this timeline give us insight into how much time has gone by between each game set within Sanctuary, but it also gives fans a better understanding of how events from each game impacted those that followed afterward. For example, In 1263, when Deckard Cain first encountered Tristram’s fallen star, players were introduced to Azmodan for the first time – who then returned during Reaper Of Souls as one of Malthael’s generals.
