Elle Fanning to Star in New Predator Movie Directed by Prey's Dan Trachtenberg

Maleficent actress takes the helm in a novel Predator film directed by Prey's Dan Trachtenberg

Elle Fanning has been chosen as the lead for Badlands, a fresh addition to the Predator series. According to Deadline, Fanning will lead this project, directed by Dan Trachtenberg of Prey fame. Patrick Aison will again craft the screenplay.

Trachtenberg's Prey marks the fifth entry in the Predator saga. It acts as a prelude to the earlier chapters by exploring the origins of the extraterrestrial trophy seekers. It distinguishes itself by centering around a native woman, portrayed by Amber Midthunder, who confronts these interstellar hunters.

With Badlands, the intention is to establish a distinctly new storyline within the Predator universe, with aspirations for it to kickstart a branched-out saga. While a sequel to Prey, tentatively labeled Prey 2, is under consideration, with Midthunder anticipated to reprise her role, Prey achieved recognition as Hulu's most successful premiere ever, sparking speculations that 20th Century might opt for a broader cinema release for Badlands.

Deadline has revealed that Fanning, an avid fan of the series, eagerly agreed to a meeting with Trachtenberg. Although final agreements are pending, production is expected to commence later this year.

Fanning, celebrated for her Golden Globe-nominated performance as Catherine The Great in The Great, is engaged with the Bob Dylan-inspired film A Complete Unknown, portraying Sylvie Russo, an early romantic interest of Dylan.

Badlands lacks a specified release schedule. Meanwhile, Prey can be streamed on Hulu.
