Google Play Store Unveils Upcoming Download Manager to Enhance User Experience
Recent developments suggest that Google Play Store is working on a new Download Manager designed to keep users informed about recently downloaded applications on their Android devices. This feature was unearthed during the dissection of a particular version of the Play Store app, indicating that it may provide users with a list detailing their recent downloads. It is also believed that upon exiting the manager, the system will emphasize applications that have been downloaded but remain unopened.
The anticipated Download Manager is set to activate automatically following the installation process of any app. This discovery was made during an examination of Google Play Store version 42.9.16-31, revealing various indicators related to the Download Manager's functionality. The findings also indicate that downloads could be organized based on installation and scheduling times.
According to the findings, when users engage with an app from the displayed list, they will be taken to a screen showcasing downloaded applications that have not yet been accessed. Moreover, users can expect to see a badge indicating the total number of downloaded apps and games on the top of the app information page.
The Download Manager was only activated during the teardown process and is not yet accessible to the general public. Features identified in such analyses typically serve the purpose of developer evaluation, leaving uncertainty surrounding their future availability to users.
In addition to this potential new feature, the Google Play Store has introduced various enhancements in recent months. These updates include an option to download multiple apps or updates simultaneously, along with a significant shift away from creating large Android Application Packages (APKs), now favoring the use of Android App Bundles (AABs) instead.
This change may complicate sideloading applications, as users will now need an APK bundle installer set up in advance to proceed with downloads.
