OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Windows Desktop App for Subscribers
The emergence of a dedicated ChatGPT desktop application for Windows marks a significant advancement for paid subscribers. OpenAI unveiled this update last week, allowing users more direct access to the AI chatbot that previously could only be utilized through its web interface. This new app grants subscribers all features of the generative AI, enhancing accessibility and user experience.
The ChatGPT app for Windows was officially announced on X by OpenAI's account. This application is tailored for the Windows operating system, aimed at providing quicker access to the chatbot for everyday tasks. Users can conveniently open the app using the Alt + Space keyboard shortcut, streamlining interactions.
Currently, the app is restricted to paid subscribers, including those in the ChatGPT Plus, Enterprise, Team, and Edu tiers, and is available as an early beta version. OpenAI intends to launch a public stable version later this year. It's important to note that individuals using the free version of ChatGPT do not have access to the desktop application at this time.
Unlike the version for macOS, no new features for the Windows desktop application have been communicated by the company. Consequently, it remains uncertain if users will enjoy the quick screenshot capability that can capture and upload images directly to the app.
Users can still leverage all the standard functionalities offered by the AI, such as generating text and images, conducting web searches, and engaging in conversations with the chatbot. Additionally, file uploads for processing by ChatGPT will be possible, further enhancing the app's functionality.
To download the app, users may visit the Microsoft app store and search for ChatGPT or use the direct link to access the app listings page. Installing the ChatGPT application for Windows requires 283MB of available storage and is compatible with Windows 10 version 17763.0 or newer.
