Peter Jackson Aids Richard Armitage in Recovering Stolen Sword from The Hobbit

Peter Jackson reached out to Richard Armitage with an inquiry about his financial situation upon noticing an online advertisement for the sale of his pilfered sword from The Hobbit. Richard Armitage, the actor who portrayed Thorin Oakenshield and led the Dwarf company in The Lord of the Rings prequel trilogy, shared that he was unaware his character's sword had been taken until Jackson spotted it for sale on the internet and contacted him expressing concern over his financial health.

In a conversation with Total Film about the most unforgettable wrap-up gift he had received, Armitage mentioned, "Orcrist, the sword from The Hobbit was an unexpected yet cherished gift from filming." However, he later discovered that the weapon was stolen from storage and placed on sale. "Peter [Jackson] confronted me with a surprising question about my financial wellbeing," Armitage recounted. "Confused, I asked for clarification, only to learn about the sword's online listing. It became necessary to involve law enforcement, but fortunately, we managed to recover the item. It now occupies a place of honor on display at my home."

Armitage's upcoming work involves a leading role in The Boy in the Woods, a period piece set during WWII, focusing on a young boy surviving alone in the Polish wilderness. The film is set to premiere digitally on May 27. Further details on this project, among others, can be found in the latest edition of Total Film, available on physical and digital shelves starting Thursday, May 23, featuring Twisters on its cover.

The forthcoming issue of Total Film is available for pre-order or by subscription, ensuring fans receive every edition before it becomes publicly available, along with exclusive covers reserved for subscribers.
