Square Enix to Release NieR Replicant Remaster on Steam
Some good news for every fan of NieR Automata, one of the best RPGs of the 2010s. Square Enix is now working on another installment of the series, and the name is NieR Replicant Remaster. This may sound like a new (or completely missed) title for most non-Japanese players. In fact, it’s the Japanese name for the well-known NieR Gestalt. This time the remastered game will regain its original name.
The story of NieR and his daughter (in Japanese release – his sister) Yona he has to heal from a strange disease starts in some dark future, when Nier, attacked by demons, has to accept the power of the magic book to resist them. But this only starts the long story. Its details differ in two versions of the game. The developers say this is a level-up rather than a technical rework. That means a deeper storyline, more attention to cutscenes, and probably improved mechanics – and, of course, visuals.
The original version was available on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360; the remaster will also hit the current consoles, but it’s planned for PC as well, already announced on Steam. The new generation fans probably don’t even remember the Drakengard series, taking NieR as a standalone franchise. If NieR Replicant succeeds like Automata, it will establish the series in its own right.
