The Classic Mode Has Returned In F-zero 99
Nintendo has pleasantly surprised fans in 2023 by reviving the F-Zero series as a multiplayer battle royale racing game. It allows up to 99 players to compete against each other, with the last driver standing being declared the winner. The game is free for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers.
Recently, Nintendo added three new courses (Fire Field, Mute City III, and Red Canyon II) to the King League in an update. Despite speculations about this marking the end of support for the game, Nintendo proved otherwise.
The company based in Kyoto has now announced it will soon release update 1.1.0 on November 29th, which will introduce a Classic Mode to the racing title and add features like changing the screen aspect ratio (now can be set to 4:3 mode). This Classic Mode lets you play according to the original SNES F-Zero rules:
- - The screen ratio matches that of the Super Famicom (SNES) version
- - Only 20 players can participate in a game
- - Spin Attack and Skyway are disabled, and the power meter boost by K.O. is removed
- - Turbo can only be used for "S Mark," which is chargeable once per lap.
- - A lucky card feature records rankings and machines used in five races, rewarding matching results at the end with bonus prizes
Nintendo also confirmed it plans on continually updating the game with minor tweaks.
