The Ring Video App Review. Home Security Right on Your Phone

The Ring Video Door Bell tool lets you watch over your home or neighbourhood remotely on your Windows, iOS or Google Android device, by setting up and controlling motion sensors and cameras around your preferred areas of view.

Interface

The app on your iPhone, iPad, Windows mobile or your APK is smart and sleek, with an uncluttered and professionally designed UI. The Home screen offers you a dashboard showing your connected devices and their locations which you can scroll through horizontally. All the icons are well placed, and the entire design is simple and clear. The design meshes effortlessly with its functionality. 10/10.

Features

The Ring Video Door Bell app lets you view devices connected via Wi-Fi around the home or your neighbourhood, and you’ll also be able to see events and activities related to each of the various gadgets.

On the various video options, you can check settings such as Ring Alerts and Motion alerts. You can also choose options under the different views such as Event History, Motion settings, Shared Users, and Device Health.

Through the Ring Cloud, you have unlimited storage for all your events, but this requires a subscription. Set chimes and motion alerts, and use the motion schedule to set times of the day when you don’t want motion alerts or set motion sensitivity.

The app also allows you to define motion zones by drawing boxes. This lets you specify the exact areas which are to be covered by the field of view.

Rings lets you view your entire activity, if you have a cloud subscription and offers a host of other features such as sharing with different users, seeing device health and configuring Chimes for various devices, infrared night vision, wide-angle camera, two-way talk, and advanced motion detection.

Ring is compatible with iOS (iOS 9.0 and later), Android mobile (APK download 4.4 or later) and Windows devices (Windows 10).

The iOS, Windows Mobile and Google Play app for Ring are download free and don’t offer any in-app purchases, instead offering a premium subscription. 7/10.

Performance

Ring is simple to deploy and use on any device. The settings are intuitive, and you won’t get stuck using the various dashboard options. Motion detection also fails on occasion, and the live videos are slightly grainy. Sometimes the app won’t pick up new gadgets, but this issue has been resolved with newer updates. 9/10.

The Verdict

I’m a big fan of the Ring concept, and the app works well in most instances apart from a few occasional glitches which the developers should fix. Motion detection and the blurry images don’t do well for the app’s functionality. The Android app has more glitches than the iOS version. However, the app is getting better with each new update. Despite these flaws, I still think Ring is one of the leading home security applications in the market, and I’d recommend it.
